~ A Story ~

What consolations is there in truth

compared to a story

What good is truth

at midnight in the dark

When the wind is roaring like a bear

and lightning strikes

shadows on bedroom walls

and rain taps at the windows

with long fingernails

When fear and cold

make a statue of you

in your own bed

Don’t expect hard-boned

and fleshless truth

to come running to your aid

You need the plump comforts

of a story

the soothing safety of a lie

Shadows are not a natural

environment for writing

 A story needs words

without them they grow pale

sicken and die

and then

they haunt you

Oh, I loved this write...I have always been a story teller, I've told them since I can remember to whoever would listen. I love to attend story telling events here in the mountains and incorporate them inside my classroom as often as possible. You are so right a story can soothe, entertain, cover the truth, stretch it just a bit, teach lessons,or simply lull a little one to sleep. Great write...

I agree... we all need a story... Did you hear the one about.......
But, of course you did. Let begin, again: It was a dark and stormy night... and Carole was in a helluva fright... but that, too, is an old story. Believe me, I hear you, and agree with each and every goose bump and shivver. Luv, - Bill

Well everyone has a reason to read a story. I read a little before I go to sleep, a page or two and thunder may do it's worst. Fine poem. Victor
