The humming contrivance pulsated anew
and began the process of thawing
the intensity waxed and steadily grew
to animus the twenty were drawing

The system was designed to work in theory
and attempt to arouse its thralls
the designers were decidedly leery
likening man's destiny to pawls

They kenned that in time man would digress
and run ruin from its true course
concerning itself with spiritual excess
and disregarding its own life force

The virus that took all began in a dish
ingenuity crafting its power
an uber weapon to wield was the wish
controlled by the souls deemed most dour

In efforts to test the vigor of such
a mistake was made in containment
infected it did the first it would touch
and spread to man's bitter waiment

As the legacy withered caught in the throes
nature began her face-lifting
earthquakes and floods fires and those
tectonic plates set a-drifting

The mountain retreat was spared the demise
as Gaea shook off her last tenants
the lush of new verdure her gift to remise
in an act of natural penance
