I close my eyes and then,
go back again... The Greencards
I hold my breath a pace
and try to picture you
fragments of a lost face
ashen grey without hue
On my skin there's a trace
of rueful residue
In the pit of the place
where colors run in blue
It is said you can't go back
but memory serves so well
It reminds me of the lack
of your smile, your sound, your smell
The force that these punches pack
leave my heart a hollow shell
The trenches my free tears track
in a path to where you fell
Truth is that I miss you more
each thought burns with grief bereft
I did not see you before
the right was wrong - you had left
I feel the loss will endure
as your passing was a theft
Far too soon - of that I'm sure
The weight here I cannot heft
Sleep sweet sister it is true
each pines now in his own place
from our arms fair angel flew
where she went we dared not chase
these pains come in an attack
surfacing stories to tell
for one day we'll hear the crack
and peal from that distant bell
Pain and sadness neither nor
as you gaze down from the cleft
Then I see you on that shore
friends to right and friends to left
