It was Christmas then
and the place was familiar
draped in the red
and the green
and your little eyes sparkled like stars
Your brothers floated
from this to that
with unbridled ebulliance
splitting at the seams
as each treasure was regarded
You doted thoughtfully
on the non-descript
taking its measure
and plaintively offering
your solemn joy
They moved about like a play
gone softly awry
but holding the sparsest fringes
of choreography
you drifted as part
but somehow apart
I noticed your mark and
took you up
you floated like a chorus
in my arms and your eyes were so blue
In the water, you watched me
trusting, tethered
a slight chill in your tiny frame
I knew that I loved you
and then, I knew how much
I felt the tug of the distant
reality searing its way into
my periphery
You sensed it too
I saddened as I was losing you
you smiled and your eyes
whispered to me
