I am not now,
nor have I been
all that I have belived myself to be
I have stop-gapped
and side-stepped
through my challenges
and emerged all-too-scathed
for the effort
I pause slowly to take in my wavering reflection
and revise my sheltered opinion to include
the utter lack of enthusiasm I have at being me
I am following a light that burned out long ago
a light that still leaves that fading retina burn so that I think I still see it even when I blink
I lost my grip on what I felt I should be holding
now, my hands grasp at nothing...and everything
I am here
and I am not
Who am I?
