I'm my father's son I don't remember your face as much as I remember your words Those last words you'd said "I'd understand" And one day, I hope to The years have grown long since you went away and I'm seeing more and doing less...it seems I am milestoning in mediocrity I puzzle over you in absentia once a year at best on that day...this day the day you came and went Wondering aloud I think I've hardened a bit since I haven't cried...yet Still the day, as a marker looms like a cloud in my mind A sobering feeling of loss I'll take on the ghosts and pass them in witless purpose and heed well their tales as they spin of your passing It's all I can cling to Perhaps the 17 and the horizon can nudge the moon a bit and change the tides and I might be able to sleep this time When the last light offers you up But, tomorrow will come and another time is memorized Each growing in legend where the trees once stood tall Defiant as the life you lost Copyright: Brian Pellerino 2006

This hit home for me, though I know it was penned from your experiences/emotions, the impact is strong making it universal as well as collective! Your writing has the ability to do that!

This poem sound as if you had a loss in your life of your father either he went away or died. Sometimes it is easier to understand the smaller words or all ages to understand where you are coming from. Expressions are always better than impressions of words. God bless.
