I measure myself in sighs and ahhs
the weight of a chuckle the length of a pause
the brush of a breath held too long
the crush of a sniff at the end of a song
I treasure these things as one does breath
for in their absence there is so much less
less drama and thrill, tumult and thrall
less power and pride, fervor and gall
It's the emotional flow as we say and we hear
the background static when we experience fear
Edit that out and you'll see what I mean
to experience the power of the "in between"
