Miguel Upon the Sand Dunes of Ecstasy and Hell

(Passion for the Shaman: That Love Should Have Its Way)

Breathes burning sugar and frozen memory,
pumps holiness through each of his cells
while the sun squeezes his behind
and crumples his spine
flips, flops, and rolls him back and forth
like a baker gone insane
slapping bread into crucified dreams of art.

His desert sky shines with goddesses

cooing clouds inside your ears

the air freezes with angels demanding

you stand up and glow like one true god.

Snakes in white tuxedos crawl rattling down your throat

and you shit poison for more days in hell

than you ever want to count again.

A dead butterfly makes love to your eyes

and you shiver semen wide across the wind’s wide naked tongue.

You are golden and rose like a beautiful ballet.

You are cold, demonic and hungry.

A storm gray and furious and white

is what your soul looks like

zooming in and out of your pitiful heart.

Look at her praying for you Miguel

and bleeding for you,  loving God for you and

swallowing the whole history of His pain for you.

Miguel upon the sand dunes of ecstasy and hell

imagines he is Walt Whitman

cut straight in half by the beauty of soldiers,

dreams he is Malcolm X and Gandhi bleeding justice

inside the syphilitic mouth of a nation.

Believes he is ancient and Yoruban and female

splitting his body giving re-birth to his father,

provides comfort to ghosts fresh from their bones,

sets free the niggers in Alice Walker’s nightmare

and sings her demons into well-earned death.

Miguel burns godly and shamanistic, his chest

studded with rubies, mouth foaming diamonds,

three black owls pour feathers on his head

and he yells into the night:

“I insist unrelentingly upon sacred ecstasy

and I demand that Love should have its way

with all my Lord’s creation!”

Miguel walks hard-on bowlegged through the desert

shouting new light into this new sky

screaming loud Ezekiel’s name.

Prophets kiss his tears, laugh hallelujah,

            get him stoned on wine.

Saints wash his blood, they all sing “Amen, Amen,”

tell Miguel to be quiet for a while.

This is my first visit to this one. I've looked in and seen it. The ink is poet's blood and secret dreams. The dreams are nightmares ripened to joy glistening at dawn. You are a miracle.

Through the hell a King has rendered, through the fire, a blessing continues, until thee I give a king, the light, the light, the burning fire, the secreats of the dead, the spirit that, cloans a new generation, the tribes continue to live, oh the verses; Oh the verses of a King, truth within the light; the battle upon the earth; has no rendering;, and the sweet smell of an ebony son, the treasures only; the truth shall be told; it is not the gravest in thee, the gravest in me, only the spirit confess, who is the King, my brother Malcolm, has generated through the spirit, and his voices continued to be herd, what is dignity, if the message has not been herd, their shall be no fire, only his the almighty says. Words of wisdom written blood, Its not the man on the mountain, its not the fire that burns the bronze of the skin, it’s a man who walk with dignity and righteousness, and the man who speaks the tongue of his father the creator of all. The burning fires produce’s a rose, respect my king your words are well written, and the wisdom is unique, the entrustments of creations lies upon your hand. I the soul of woman, man the image of God, I woman am nothing without my King.

I love the fantastical images you craft, Aberjhani, they strike chords within me that create worlds. This piece is amazing in its depths and scope, I felt an eon pass as I read.

"Believes he is ancient and Yoruban and female
splitting his body giving re-birth to his father"

These lines struck me with their elan, I've come to understand fiction is not; anything written was, can be or will be. Reality is relative, and growth of soul births multiple realities. It's not suprising, really, but it is a truth that has been distorted and discouraged.

I wonder about your mind, Aberjhani, creativity has its price, I've found. Sensitivity brings awareness, awareness brings pain. As well as bliss.

Thank you, for this thought-provoking piece, I enjoyed its complexity and visions.

This is a wonderful poem in free verse, I wont call it a prose poem (I differ from Andre)...But prose has been used well in this poem, one can see the effort made in enjambment and line breaks. At times I found good use of ballad rhythm, some lines are scannable in Iambs...OVERALL SONIC quality qualifies it as a free verse poem.

This is a well written work dealing with vicissitudes of the present life and times.
