Living on the Edge 2

by Aberjhani — Read all 107 poems by Aberjhani

Thursday, April 28, 2005

Strange: to feel your self cemented

at the blood-heavy roots within

yet clearly incomplete.  Unsafe somewhere.

Thoughts and mercurial impression race

between skin and muscles, blood and soul,

like radioactive maggots contaminating

all the best beliefs you hold about you.

At your feet a translucent bird

struggles like a broken nation.

Upon its wings, within its breasts

a thousand colors shine stories

about you: all the love you slaughtered,

the hatred you rocked in your arms like some

sad little boy-orphan or your own smelly evil.

These are knowings: from which you

have always ran.  Now pulsing at your feet

like Achilles’ bloody wound.

Now ravenous and raving for morsels of mercy.

your powerfully descriptive poetic analysis leaves me in awe ... some cannot handle the truth about themselves so they run from it ...

I've heard you were the master poet. You get no arguement from me on that. I once opened myself up and took a look inside. This work reminds me of what I saw there. Once I recovered from fainting at the sight of me, I felt brave enough to look again. Yeah, that was me allright. Writing always cleanses me. Thank you for the depth of this piece.

Feed it self-forgiveness and fly, you beautiful soul. Grow and soar! As always, stunning work. I printed it out and meditated on it in a parking lot while waiting for my kids. :-) ~~Nordette

You have some lovely word-relations, Poet Aberjhani, like strange and struggles, thoughts and thousand, radioactive and hatred. I can also feel the 'b's' presences in all the verses and some intriguing lop-sides vowel alliteration.

Linda's right, this one, to me, was felt, but not so much, at first, in the meaning of its words, but in its lettering structure and moody tone. Then, awareness bites and propounds the secondary realization of the meaning of those words, creating a double-pathos echoing effect that still rings in my mind.

Thank you for this lesson.

Some poems you FEEL, and to describe them is futile. To hear your poetry aloud would be beauty, Aberjhani...Startling when you see yourself in a crystal mirror, devoid of illusion. The shame burns truth. You know her name. You come to your authentic self. Your tears cleanse. You grow. From everything you grow...

This is so powerful, Aberjhani: deeply personal and yet so universal. We are all men and all men are us. Guilty and yet innocent at the same time. The ties that bind us to each other... and even more so to ourselves - are strong. This is so graphic and intense that it is almost like shards of glass beneath my bare feet... and rightly so.
