The Web

Prose, for a Monday morning...


Poem Artwork

A web glitters with dewshine in the morning light, a fine crochet of spun silver.
A moth tentively step apon it's argentine threads,
and pauses to take a drink, dusty wings lulled by a warm breeze.
Birds on a wire prattle their tales, but he ignores their nervous chatter, content to refresh himself at the well. In an instant, He feels a thread strung taut and a tremble beneath him.
He senses a shadow from behind, but as yet it has no form, except for his instinct of danger.
At the moment he tries to fly, his wings are pinned by a band that tightens around his thorax, and he is paralysed by a sting of pain.
The silk trap is spun around him at amazing speed, and he watches the last filters of light fail his eyes and retreat to a dark grey...

Whoa this is so haunting and the web
always scares me. ;) Sometimes I think
life is like that, you get caught in
a web and can't escape and loneliness
is just like the moth.

Yes it is a very lovely description and the web outside this morning looked like tiny diamonds from the snow.

I just loved it Linda, such wonderful description, we were there, perhaps upon the high wire with the others, looking, and I felt so badly for the lovely moth, his silvered wings, perhaps, also, and of course the sublime duties of the spider. That which always flashes may not be the drinkable at all, though it seems so lurid, just great, Al

whew...this makes the prospect of being trapped in a web even more scarey!!! I've never really looked at it from a bug's perspective, but this makes me glad I'm not one!!!
