You Do Not Want Me Now

The well defined features have melted
into softness
My eyes are no longer bright
and too worldly wise to entertain
wonder without suspicion
You walk by me now without a glance

Remember desire? It ebbs in me but does not flow in you

You do not want me now
Now that life has taken it's toll, my
firm youth behind me

Sweet promise no longer floats in the air around me
I am deep in the mysteries of life, my soul a forgotten well
Look beneath the dry brush, you will find an oasis there
I have seen death and yet my soul is a fertile spring
I have seen my sisters debased, exalted and debased again

I have carried the weight of the world alone

I have raised my children

I have been brought to the ground, and have raised myself up countless times

I have lived by the sheer force of my will

But you drink from the shallow pool

You worship beauty's illusion And then drown in your own soul's reflection.

This is so powerful Linda and you are
a beauty no matter what. I drink deeply myself.

This is one exceptionally meaningful piece of poetry for
Today's Woman, or any woman who knows the pain of rejection
after loyally 'fulfilling' her 'duties' to a heartless man.
The world is indeed in love (in a sick way, I might add) with the
'illusion' of youthfulness. At times it is often worshipped as a
god. Your poem is an astute understanding of all this.

Others may see in this poignant write the "woman in a man's world" dynamic, but I see this as more personal and can relate to it on that basis - isn't poetry just such a wonderful thing? I have had a life-threatening illness, held hearth and home together, felt as grey as a dishrag and as attactive as a used tissue - but, suddenly, I am again resurfacing as a new individual for whom all of those chiselling experiences are perhaps enhancing any "beauty" that I might otherwise have had - from within, mainly!! Just love this, and the last two lines are exceptional - almost Narcissistic. TY for this "real woman" write. Bless you, Kate xx

excellent poem! your will to endure as a woman in a "man"s" world is strong indeed ...you have successfully detached yourself from the ilusion trying to weigh you down ...

Maybe that illusion is the only escape from an overwhelming dislike of the person's own reflection. Illusive, of course, but so many keep drinking from it... until they revive from drowning, one day, just to see their own awareness of ridicule reflected in the eyes of beauty (exactly the one whose illusion they have pursued). An outstanding write and perception, Linda.

Powerful and wise poem... I pity those who live in illusions, but at the same time can't see the image in the mirror...

Dear Linda.
You are the true beauty. Reading this reflective poem made me think about how brave you are. You have been beaten down by life but still you stand. Keep your head up and don't ever stop writing.
With love

Oh and I do so agree Linda. This is fantastic, and what it means to be a woman in the world of men. I still know how men treat women and yet, I so yearn for the day when my body and soul will be one. May the Lord be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love, peace, & (((HUGS))) ... Barbie

Dear Linda,

WOW, this certainly hit home. Powerful? Definitely !! Succinctly penned. I most definitely agree with Nordette, we are better and sweeter. But it is the fools who will never know this, and I happier that they depart.

Thank you for an exceptional write Linda.

Warm hugs

Now this some good stuff you've written here, Linda Gayton, and so are you, and so are we, those women deemed past prime. Like bottles of vintage wine we're better and sweeter. Wise men crave us, but vapid, shallow men are afraid to open and taste us because they know they have not enough richness in soul to handle the buzz. They hear fementation of our dreams and know we will surpass them, can't handle it, look elsewhere, search for bottles of Ripple and Boonesfarm. They can handle cheap stock. It'll knock them out, girlfriend, and tell them lies, and make them think they're so wonderful even as they contemplate Viagra. ;-)
