Inspired by the book and movie, "The Secret Garden"...

Poem Artwork

Yes, I am still here-you can hear me breathe through the mass of ivy that covers the garden wall and the gate you have locked to your heart

Do you smell the roses? They bloom in your mind inspite of the thorns that pierce your soul my sorrowful love, find the key and come into life

Our memory was carved into the wooden swing that sways in the northeaster-
the stormy wind that wanders and won't find a home

But it visits here and takes shape in the swirling leaves and moves the swaying trees to sighing-a brood of clouds sting tears for lack of spring

It is always spring in my manifestation as I'm a phantom in ivory organdy and lace fading in the grey light-but brilliant white in your dreams from which there is no escape

The robin is a happy harbinger-he sings of hope yet birthed in the empty nested trees and tightly budded branches if you would but hear the pensive strains

Our love lives in the children we have borne that give birth to new tomorrows-do not shut the sun from their sight, open the shutters and bathe their faces with healing tears...

How can I not love this... set in our own Yorkshire Moors - and then the picture nearly floored me - I must send you a photo of me at 21 in a dull woollen duffle coat, taken in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales in fact, but the face is pretty identical... and the demeanor, come to think of it! Just love this take, Linda - especially that swing you have captured just so enigmatically and symbollically. That is pure class. I adore your prose-style, too... it is unique and something which I am interested in pursuing more myself: I oscillate between long-lined poems and short-short stories, but prose poetry is what my Tutor is trying hard to encourage me into... This has really touched me this evening, thank you so much... BTW, second thoughts about that pic, huh?! Gettin a bit carried away there! :)) Kate xx

A truly captivating write, Linda - and I think we all have those secret gardens deep within our hearts and souls - we just have to open the gate more often.

I remember seeing this movie. Your poem has brought back some wonderful moments from that movie. It was a movie well-watched and your poem has made it comes to life again in my head.

Wonderful write, Linda!

I felt as though I were watching it all over again.

So beautiful!

Wow!!! This is very deep Linda, and very emotive. I have a secret garden too, and it is being cultivated by the man I love. May the Lord Jesus bless you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly.
