Nothing Stands Still

Black and white glossies
Creased with folded corners
My smiling face Long legs tanned from summer sun
Tomboy hair blazing chesnut
Holding a bat and ball
The shrubs are trees now
Middle aged and scraggly
Nothing stands still
Only figures in photographs
They catch time There goes the fly ball
I'm throwing it to my children
They hug me adoringly in color
Soon they will call me "stupid"
Sprout wings and fly on their own
The ball and mitt sit on a shelf
The smell of leather and grass
Dusty soil and sweat
Still there
It holds our memories
Balled-up white lightening
Our dreams flew on air
My dad leaves this earth
The cotton curtains move
Eigth spring brings a grandchild
I catch her in digital frame
She will be a tomboy
Catch my throws
Crack thunder
On a Louisville Slugger
Hug me adoringly
Never call me "stupid"
My daughter's cotton curtains move
I will leave this earth
Nothing stands still...

You've painted the circle of life here for the mind's eye. Wonderfully done, Linda.

Life cycles... beautifully expressed, Linda. Much enjoyed.

Very powerful, Linda, and excellently executed and "snapped" in your usual cinematic and highly visual, journalistic way. You certainly know which telling details to include to give the poem lift and that certain sense of je ne sais quoi. I could picture and smell the whole thing - which makes it all the more penetrating when I seriously consider the weight of your words a propos my own mortality... but ain't digital photography grand?! I was given a camera by my family for my birthday a few weeks' back... haven't quite spared the time to work it out, yet, but the big wide world of putting stuff onto computer is wunderbar - and the crystal results an absoloute dream - like the quality of this write! Reading NOTHING STANDS STILL is much like looking at a one-act five-dimensional play with the souls of characters motivated by both the simple and the sublime while time marches on waiting for no one. A poignantly wise and visually engaging write.

Awesome write... a lifetime of memories and dreams, wishing and hoping to come alive again... with a grandchild, all do come true and once again everything is young and new...

Time sure don't wait.
How many think we own our property.
We borrow it for a short time, being conned by commerce.
Great pondering poem/message

Wouldn't it be nice to pause time just for a moment
