Lazy summer night
Breeze from the coast
Cottonwoods spinning wool
about the past
Can't sleep
Listening to blues
while that old freight train
whines throught town,
steals ghosts and sends them
flying into eternity
Here I sit on the creaky step
waiting for redemption
The world running circles
through me
I see outlines of real life
in the shadows
as my eyes adjust to the light
The moths hit their stride
this time of night
Catch a high from the porchlight
and won't come down
Kid in a red tricked-out pony
streaks past on the street
I think of my youth
and the passion for speed
Now I hold my breath
and look before I leap
But the moon reminds me
and mystery beckons again
Its sweet scent narcotic
straight to the vein

This is wonderful, Linda. Life takes all in its stride, but memories and imagination paint our spirit with what has been and what is yet to come, as we sit quietly in the today and watch the moon shine its shimmering light upon our soul.
Take care,
Sherry

Blimey - brilliant!! This has such sharp imagery and evocation, Linda, as to be cinematic in its quality - like Dale!! (No wonder you're a good writing match!) Yet the emotional portraiture is as finely drawn, and the mood is wonderful - amazing within such short lines and with so few words! (Again - reminds me of how Dale is so good at this) This highly effective write takes us both inwards and outwards, onto the streets and into the heavens beyond. A keeper! Has your journalistic quality about it. TY Kate xx

Loved this, it's so very good.
Your visuals are stunning and
such a unique style. I felt like
I was sitting under the porchlight.
Excellent Lin!

A very heady dose of PORCHLIGHT meditation that elevates the reader's senses to a higher perspective on one's past, present, and potential future:-) An altogether beautiful poem.

Linda,

Excellent stream of consiousness running through this poem! You reminded me of my Mustang and the things I did in that car...Good Lord! lol! I really enjoyed this, especially since I have been incredibly nostalgic lately!

Thank you for all of your kind wishes on the move. It went well and
now I am just sorting through tons of boxes I haven't seen for years! lol! Another reason your poem brought a smile to my face!

The memories of the joys and freedoms of our youth reach out to us seemingly from another lifetime, only to remind us, we'll be forever addicted to what might have been. "It's sweet scent narcotic straight to the vain." Excellent line, excellent write.
I can relate. Really enjoyed this. Pierre.
