The hushed hues of September!
The quality of light is spun gold
A turn of leaves in soft shoe
on shuffling trees
We walk in wonder two steps behind
Still dreaming of summer
and slow dances skin-to-skin
Then October blazes into a tango
of red, orange and yellow!
One last fiery dance before the fall
As time chills beneath our feet
and the horizon threatens tempest
The smell of woodsmoke and tabacco
Near hibernation in front of a fire
Seeking warmth and a soft chair
as the frost salts our hair
What a comfort to waltz life onto the page
When all around you is lost or sleeping
a marvelous look at life as a "waltz" and the
fall taking us into our twilight "as the frost
salts our hair" but also bringing the beauty
and wonder of living to be something admired.
Beautiful piece Lin!
You depict that "turn" wonderfully here, Linda! From that brazen "fiery dance" of the "last tango" - and, somehow, we just KNOW it is the last one, right? - through to the anticipation of the woodsmoke and tobacco. Beautiful images in "frost salts our hair" and "a turn of leaves in soft shoe on shuffling trees". A feast for the senses this is... and I am feeling uplifted myself on the "waltz" of so many kind thoughts and prayers for my well-being today! TY and bless you, Kate xx
Fall is my favorite season, Linda and you do her justice with this beautiful poem. I have yet to write my ode to autumn this year with all that has been going on in the world, but you have inspired me to begin my thought process on it. Autumn, with the shorter days causes me to begin to relax and think about the quiet peacefulness that winter will bring. These are the gathering and nesting seasons and as I get older, I appreciate them even more. Very nice poem!
Take care,
Sherry
