You seek the shelter
of granite
and in the face of the rock
you've carved your name
deep into the stone
so those stormy winds
you love so well
won't erase your presence
But don't you know
your every step
is recorded in sound
The ancient ones
speak to you
at night when the moon
whispers prayers
in hidden veins of turquoise
What you struggle
to understand
your soul remembers
and you feel light
on your feet
stumble on the craggs
You believe yourself
a mountain buck
those great horns
bugeling the weight
of your wisdom
but the snowy winds
send your thoughts
flying on the soles
of quicksilver
constantly changing
wearing holes in solid rock
So what do you cling to
Those quaking aspen
whose roots seek the cracks
or do you let yourself
freefall into time & space
not caring where you land
Death's shadow
your lifelong companion
has led you to the white buffalo
but it snowblinds you somehow
Is that why
you're drawn down to the river
to renew your restless soul
by fighting the current
that strives to pull you under
The pebbles near the shore
are smooth under your feet
and gentle water sings melodies
to your sorrowed heart
In all ways
she sings pure to you
One day that same river
will carry you upstream
and join you to the ocean
of the living
your soul free as a butterfly
feeding on clover
which tastes like joy
And that karmic debt
that binds you here
that granite stone will disappear into everything
