Begging in my country has taken an alarming situation. I just decided to write on one I have observed closely
`````````~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`````````
Each passing day,
he curles in pains
sitting on dirty pavements,
dishevelled, impoverished.
He has neither a brother
nor a sister who cares.
He has no ambitions,
He has no tomorrow:
pity the street beggar.
Just the other day,
a deep urge of grieve
arose deep inside me
when he's remembered.
The side walk;
his dwelling place,
begging his vocation
he's abandoned.
He has no future,
he makes no choice,
he's helpless:
Pity the street beggar.
i see many in new york streets ... some released from over-burdoned mental hospitals ... i know the spots where some of them hang out and sometimes give them a sandwich or cup of coffee ... in a country like ours, there should not be any "beggars" or homeless people ... that in itself, is a crime ...
We are a rich country with many safety nets, yet most mornings an older, but not old, lady sits on the sidewalk, singing to herself and smoking a cigarette, looks forlornly into every passing motorist's eyes. What brings her to this state, I do not know. I prefer to think that it's a madness rather than a dire need of poverty.
Compassionate and compelling, Emeka. The saddest part is that this world need have no beggars if we really changed our ways. Thank you. Love and peace. Regis
Oh yes Emeka, pity them! Also help if we can, and pray for them.
They are seen the world over, and in this modern age of plenty there is no excuse for it. Society has failed humanity. We do much better with techology and material things than we do with people. Something we shall have to answer to Creator for!...Excellent poem !
Love,
Eileen
