Cold Snap

Autumn arrived
Sixteen minutes ago
(According to the clock on my computer.)
If it were not
for Daylight Saving
(Tasmania has it,
Queensland doesn't bother)
Then autumn would not arrive
(officially)
For forty-two minutes more.
And no, my maths are not wrong
For it took me two minutes or so
to write as far as my tenth line.
Another minute now ticks past
And autumn (Daylight saving or not)
Comes fast.
There's a cold snap out tonight
And the clock has just clicked over to 12.20.

Autumn arrived twenty minutes ago
Or not for another forty.
And here in limbo I sit
Typing
Dog at my feet
In a cold snap.
