Tess and Ace
are supposedly
two little bitches-
identical breed.
Each is Jack Russell
(a bright little terrier)
Tess is the calmer one,
Ace is the merrier.

Tess has bat ears
And a muzzle that's sharp;
Ace has flip-floppies
A serious bark;
You'd think if you heard her
a beagle *at least*!
Tess has a yap
That will rob you of ease-

Dainty-pawed Tess
is tailess and fleet
Ace has a waggy tail-
elephant feet.
Jaws like a crocodile
autumnal hair
Tess' jaw's delicate
Eating with care.

Ace is up front
when we come through the door
"Ace *loves* you", she tells us
And waves her front paws
Tess comes up quietly
and gives me a grin
upper lip lifted -
She's pleased we've come on.
