Where is the voice of silence
In our modern times?
Where are the quiet hours marked
By hushing of the pines?
The gentle sea, the river's flow
Where did all our silence go?
Where is the voice inside our heads
In our modern years?
Where opinions winnowed out
Nor dinned upon our ears?
The falling rain, the hills beyond
Where is all our silence gone?
Where is the time for leisured thought
In our modern age?
Where we wait and work it out
Nor lift it from the page
The shriek and babble, hectoring-
That shatters peace with violence
Where is modern times can we
Find the voice of silence?
This collection of poetry addresses the nature of time, reflections on the natural world, the difficulty of loss,
contemporary social issues and gratitude for life.
I carry silence with me always. I am deaf, but I do remember the beauty of sound.
