Please don't take offence. No, I only think it is coincidence. We poets many times do think alike as we are all humans and we do face the same problems daily.
I only posted my so that we both know that similarities do cross when we poets think alike.
I am not like that; I do not bring others down just because they happen to think alike. Afterall, we are all humans.
It has happened to me too before that I wrote on the same topic on one site and then another poet wrote on the same topic on another site, both talking about the same thing; but mine was posted 5 minutes earlier than hers. It was just plain coincidence...and yes, it happens all the time.
Please don't worry about anything. We are all here to enjoy and learn from each other.
Wow, there's a coincidence for you! I hope you'll accept my honest assurance that I've never seen or read your poem before? I wrote mine today after hearing about an incident in which a young woman of one colour was spat at by a young man of another, and, shortly afterwards, of a young woman of the second colour who was spat at by a young man of the first colour. This happened in different countries, and as far as I know none of the parties knew one another personally...
I wish to say that this sounds like one of my poems which I had written in June 2001; and was posted in many websites, and have been critiqued by friends and critics. The idea of the difference is the same, even though the words are different. Here is my version which I had posted here in the den last month:
Of all people I know
I am the only one
who sips my coffee
from a stir stick.
You watch me -
consider me an oddity
as I wonder what you consider
as odd.
I do things differently -
Obviously,
not what you normally do.
I look different -
Obviously,
not the same colour as your skin.
It is ironic:
Being different
does not mean
I am not as good as you;
Being different
does not mean I'm equal to more or less
in value than you.
