more thoughts on a woman in florida

i didn't know her
at all
but then
i don't know many
people


and i know
many people
don't agree with
my views
but then
they didn't know her
either

not to say
i'm on her husband's side
anyone that denies
a mother goodbye
isn't worth the flesh
that holds him together


nor am i on her parent's side
good God
did love blind you
to what needed to be done?


i was always
on her side
that poor
shivering mass
of woman
imprisoned in a body
that no longer
was hers


well now
you're free
and i'm glad
no more debates
news coverage
christian protesters
who can't mind
their business
side of the road media freakshow
putting you on
display
you're free


next time around
do us a favor

this is the first thing written about terry that i can totally relate to without feeling that i need to somehow apologize for not agreeing with the masses. i too feel that he has gone too far in refusing her parents her last days, but enough is enough and the media needs to just stop it and let the poor woman have some peace at last. and this has made me realize....i will have a note...no one will ever wonder what i might have wanted.

unfortunately, it turned out to be a media circus where all became involved, from top to bottom ... a very sad event that goes on all the time, unreported ...

Well yes and I said this too that when a couple gets married they have pre-nuptials in that should have separate living wills drawn up. And put someplace where it is safe. I think having a 72 hour clause would help the family members especially if it is a question of brain death. But to not nourish the body was wrong. Her name was Terri and having seen the ethics of what is correct in patient's rights many things disturb me. But the debate unfortunately will not end. It has only begun.

Well said! This a reminder to make known our wishes to spare those we love brutal anguish. Didn't everyone have a field day with this? Using Susan and adding to the family's suffering--the press; the attorneys; the ACLU and the Conservatives!
