Just a little rambling inside of the woods.

I Came To A Wood
by Barbara Lynn Terry

I came to a wood,
Wandering as aimlessly as I could,
I was tired, but no place to sit,
So I rested against a tree,
Wondering where could I be.
I heard a wolf in the distance,
But had no sense of resistance,
If the wolf were to come by me,
For I would be frozen like the tree.
After I had rested I continued on,
Still wandering aimlessly here and there,
While the tops of the trees covered the sun,
And did not know in what direction was where.
I finally spied a cottage, but no one seemed at home,
I knocked at the door, but all I heard was an echo,
And I opened the door to find a dusty home,
But I still had no idea where I had roamed.

Intriguing and. . .do you believe in magic, Barbara? Because I feel
you are in the midst of a transformation that is as magic as it
is real. This poem is just part of the evidence. . .right?

Sometimes it is nice to just get lost in a peaceful place where we are without fear and held within God's embrace. Sweet write, Barbie.
Take care,

This is all about opening doors to find what is within and finding paths that lead us to happiness and wholeness. At times it is necessary for us to descend into the depths of the woods to meditate and find our way. I have a tarot card I illustrated in my den titled The Fire Walk. It is a good card to meditate on opening doors and standing what you see. I Came To A Wood is not a confusion about where one has roamed, but rather a place to start afresh and call it home, the cottage and wolf having a deeper meaning here, as to both being pathfinders and ways to communicate with nature. Great poem, Barbie.

A finely-imaged and metaphorical write on what I perceive as an investigation into the mysteries of destiny and self. Reading these lines I am reminded of Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on A Snowy Evening." An interesting difference here is that the narrator in Frost's poem was able to determine a path with the knowledge of a specific eventual destination. Here we have a specific, though anonymous destination, but seemingly without knowledge or certitude regarding the path by which the narrator has arrived. Thank you for sharing such a thought provoking poem.
