A poem about a little soul searching.

STOP! In The Name Of...
by Barbara Lynn Terry

Stop! In the name of...
But in the name of what?
Do we stop in the name of love
Only to be disappointed and sad?
Do we stop in the name of
All that is decent and pure
Just to go our seperate way?
Do we stop in the name of
Caring for ourselves and others
Who may desperately need our help?

If this is true , then why stop in the name,
Of anything?
Why be cheery and happy, just to bring
Sadness and plight, to those who just might
Walk on by without so much as a glance,
Smirking at us because we are unable to dance?

The Supremes sang, Stop! In the name of love,
But love is a fleeting shadow hidden by a glove,
That conceals a deformed hand,
While we listen to the dirge played by a band,
somewhere in the far reaches of our mind,
As we listen to the insults of the unkind.

Stop? Stop in the name of...of what?

The fools are the ones doing the smirking and ridicule. I say stop for red lights and may you always have green ones on your road of life.
