Children should be children as long as they can...I had to repost this because the original one was too small to read. :P

A little reminder that children should still be children...

I looked through my window at the outside,
where I had just finished playing,
hopscotch, jump rope, jacks and played on the slide,
the grass was still a little green yet.
So I got into my pajamas, and brushed my teeth,
and got into bed to dream of sheep,
I slept really good that night, but when I saw the sun,
I got out of bed, and looked out of my window,
and saw the most marvelous sight of all...IT SNOWED!

So I took my bath, and put on my jeans with flowers on the back,
then I ran downstairs, and put my snowsuit and boots on and went out to play.
I made a snowman all by myself, his eyes, were stones that I found,
and so was his mouth, his nose was a stick, laying in our yard.
after he was finished, I went and told my friends, and they all came to see,
the snowman I had built by myself.

We formed a ring around the snowman, and each of us holding hands,
we sang a song as we danced around, called "The Jolly Ole Snowman"
a song we made up a year before.

These times are for the children,
and they should not be forsaken to them,
for children should be children as long as they can.

Seems like we have to pick up the children and throw them into the snow....and force them to play in it! They are busy skiing on the WII machine in the living room, or having a snowball fight via the game system. If we make them play in the COLD, we are called child abusers. I always had fun with my sled on the big hill every winter as a child. My mama had to force me to come inside. I did not seem to care if I was frozen, but she did. Thanks for the memories, CarolHawks

I agree...its funny I'm reading this today...last night I laid down in bed with my daughter, she's 17 and has a really nice boyfriend who she's been dating now for seven months now. I asked her if she was having serious thoughts about him, if you know what I mean...and we talked about trying to stay a little girl for a little longer...she agreed! :)
I love moments like that...and your write just relived it for me again!
Loved it!
Love and Peace~

That is why I do not mind that people tell me that I "never grew up." I take it as a compliment even though it is not meant to be thus. Childhood is a precious time that is over too soon. Thank you, Barbie. Love and blessings to you,

Beautiful piece of nostalgia that brings up sweet memories...that first snow of the season...that fresh awakening to each new day full of adventure...

Never too late to relive the memories of childhood, whether it be splashing in mud puddles, swinging on swings or making snowmen after the first fall snow of winter. Well said Barbie.

Yes, I do agree that children should remain so until they are ready to take the next step. Very beautiful and very well done.....

Thank you Barbara for the larger, darker print. Some of us with very limited vision do appreciate the larger pring because it is so much easier to read. My eyes extend their appreciation. ......

Be Safe,
Karen
