The ER Blues

When you know something isn't right
you go to the ER and spend all night
having them poke and prod, prod and
poke, draw blood, have x-rays, CT scans
ekg, ecg, blood pressure, pulse, oxygen
levels, and even the odd and very rare
pill to help the pain.
But what was it that I have gained?
Just absolutely nothing and I remain
in abject misery and awful pain.
Why do they always have an excuse
to give me these ER blues?
Giggle...been there done that! Not a nice place to be in the ER. Around here, you can be there for 12 hours without seeing a doctor. It really is sickening.....pardon the pun! Well said Barbara!

Hi Barbie, I happen to work in the ER, and guess what, there are many persons who ENJOY coming and they like to imagine they have a life threatening emergency. They seem to thrive on the attention and enjoy the place like they are on a vacation! Your writing has captured the truest form of how one should feel in the ER.

I've been there, and it was not fun, especially since I'd never been in the hospital before. I then ended up getting admitted, which I really did not enjoy; ended up staying in the hospital for a da** month, AND ended up having THREE surgeries!! YARGGGG!! Great write of not so fun times; hope you feel better soon!

The ER is not designed for cure, it is there for a quick patch, life-saving procedures or for tests that will aid your regular physican in making a diagnosis. Unfortunately, our regular doctors are too busy to be able to help us when we need emergency care so they hand us off to the, already over flowing, ER. I usually find the ER to be a lesson in futility and I can relate to the ER Blues.

Stess is a very sneaking culprit & incredibly leathal in its pursuits through our body. I am just guessing of course. I often wonder how our emotions affect us physically. If we have intense pleasure it feels good for those serotonine release us. Now if we hapen to feel bad....well I wonder where does it go?
Perhaps a back ache is speaking about heavy loads of life...
chest pain perhaps is the heart ache of love in distress...
well if nothing else, treat yourself to something nice....be good to you! You deserve it & you are worthy...

Prevention is what this nation should be offering people, not reaction. But that means we'd have to actually accept everyone regardless of insurability and actually TEACH people and provide affordable health care for people who are the least to be able to pay. (Oh Lord don't get me started---smile).

Well with a bad heart and diabetes I have spent more than one night in ER for as a heart patient I am guarenteed to be spending at least 8 hours there while they do multiple blood testing, so I know what you mean. However the one time you dont' go could be the one time you are having a serious problem...so like the old saying goes barbie, better save than sorry.
Barbara, I certainly agree with you--and it's not just the ER--it is also the doctor's office. Have you noticed all the forms you have to fill out when you see a doctor? They aren't about your health. They're about your insurance and the money they will receive. Also, they don't have a clue what's wrong with you without a test. If there isn't a test for what ails you, then forget it.
Sorry, your write just stirred me to do a bit of ranting.
Hate going to the ER. Don't mind the poking and prodding, if they would find out what's wrong and fix it ... this going in and having to wait a thousand years among sick people, communicating with doctors who don't understand English and them speaking Medicalese so you're more confused than ever ... phoo. Hope you feel better, soon.

Last time my twin sis went to the ER, she was admitted for a month in the hospital: three surgeries and an uncaring, RUDE doctor - the nursing staff, however, SHONE.
:o)...my hubby has gone through all the ER misery. They weren't able to find anything wrong with him. Each time, we were there for at least 6 hours, sometimes even longer, just to have them say, "As far as we see, everything is normal. Go home and check with your doctor."
Well, he finally checked with his doctor just in time to stop a heart attack!!!
They don't have any good doctors in the ER anymore.
