I Dream Of A Man
by Barbara Lynn Terry
I dream of a man, so handsome, fair and strong
that hand in hand we would laugh and walk along
the river bank and splash each other as we went
that I would playfully push him in as over he bent.
I dream of a man so affable, lithe and fine
and I dream of the day he will be mine
and we would do things as husband and wife
living together in abysmal bliss the eternal dream life.
We would have a home of our own with a picket fence
we would have more energy than what we could spend
we would plan a family of two, four, six, or even ten
and we would teach them to have common sense.
I dream of a man, so far away fighting for the rights
of others so they may have freedom of speech.
But I wait, worry, and even cry during the nights
then I hear the car and the tires screech.
I dream of a man, so handsome build with a smile
standing by the car for just a little while
gathering his strength for the hugs and kisses he will get
so lovingly, happily, joyously, and slobbering wet.
I throw open the door and run to him, jumping in to his arms
and he catches me in mid air, and we kiss like forever
because this is the man whose smile and charms
I had dreamt about so many years ago.
I dream of a man.
