There Must Be A Way
by Barbara Lynn Terry
I listen to the sound of the children playing
then mothers to each other saying
that their child can do this or even that
and a young girl shows the boys how to bat.
I sit and watch the hummingbird flit
it goes from flower to flower for sweet nectar
but never does it tire or sit
it just keeps flitting about.
I listen to the raindrops pitter patter softly
on my window pane, lulling me to sleep
during the night when the thunder is loud
but does not disturb the music of the rain.
I listens to the songs the birds sing
and to a sense of tranquility it brings
a smile to my lips and puts me at ease
like listening to a Mozart symphony.
As I walk down the street, I see many
smiles on the faces of strangers in
greeting as I pass by and I smile back
with a how do you do, and he says just fine.
I watch the clouds in the sky, and picture
the different shapes looking like so many
familiar things we have in life, as well as
faces of people we know or know about.
The beauty of Nature is for us to enjoy
it was put here by God Almighty when He
made the heavens and the earth below
and yet many to do not even care.
What will it take to do away with all
of the hatred, bigotry, intolerance
discrimination, homophobia, prejudice,
war, crime, abuse? What will it take?
There must be a way even in this day
and age that we can come up with
a plan to stop the hating swarm
making everyone's heart warm.
There must be a way.
