A personal sharing of a terrible day of living with Alzheimers.
When I awoke this morning, my brain wasn't functioning right. My thoughts were scattered, and I couldn't seem to get them together. I couldn't remember how much sugar to put in my coffee, where my shoes were, ect . I tried to wrap a box to send to my cousin in Conn. My husband had to help get it completed. My whole day was like that.... ALL MIXED UP.
I received some important mail , read it at the dining room table. Then I got up with it in my hand and can't remember where I went or put it. My mind has been and is still a complete blank concerning the letter.
I have looked every where. I cried several times because I couldn't find it. The anxiety and frustration have been overwhelming. Other family members helped look and haven't found it either. The blanks that occur in ones mind are exactly that! BLANKS... NOTHING REMEMBERED at all!!!
I've done every thing I can to stop the disease's progress and sometimes I think I 'm doing better, but then days like this one come and I'm faced with the fact that its not going to get better unless a cure is found. It all seems so hopeless at times.
My husband has had skin cancer removed three weeks in a row, he's stuggling with Alzheimers and Lupus plus a heart conditionAND two leaking valves.
When he first found out he had Alzheimers , he refused to take medications for it. Slowly he has started taking them and is now on the Exelon patch and has just started taking Namenda.
Our oldest son, Sam has been having memory problems, and is going for tests next week . I fear he has Alzheimers too.
Writiing helps to relieve the pressure I feel. Its a good outlet for me.
Anxiety seems to play a big role in the disease. Its important to keep ones mind active , exercise and maintain a sense of calm and well being. Eating fresh fruits and vegtables helps too.
I haven't had a day like this in a very long time. I try to remain upbeat, but this day has been a grim reminder of what is ahead for both of us. I have small lapses of short term memory, long term is still good.
Thank you for the continued reviews of my writing and your support. I'll try to catch up soon with those who are kind enough to leave comments.
Please say lots of prayers for us.. Tomorrow is another day AND its gotta be better than this one.. God Bless all of you...MaryGrace
Thank God for your husband taking his medicine. He nees to be strong for you too and help himself along with you. And I pray for your Son too. All my prayers for you. It must be so frustrating. but Actively keeping in with things and doings things helps they say. I know it cannot be fun but you can conquer it by doing things that help and taking care of you and him and getting in touch with the God lord each day. My prayers for you and this writing is good for someone who has the disease. You are doing great and loved very much by me.
...always in my thoughts and prayers you are MaryGrace...and I can only hope and wish that you days hold the calm strength needed for you to cope with this battle. Continue to write when you can...and I will read.
John

This must be a constant battle but you sound like a warrior. I have heard Alzheimers is inherited. I pray your son does not have it as well since not only the mature population suffer. Best wishes.
