the tumbleweed

thwarted a less determined
prairie sage, published on the
Wild West page,

The New Riders
of the Purple Sage
and prairie phlox, Wells
Fargo's iron-bound treasure
box, gold dust, gold bars, gold
coins, pop a top, pharmaceutical
boullion, sawed-off shotgun loaded
with 00 buckshot,

six-horse
stagecoach,
1852-1918, five
to twelve miles an
hour, it was when she
stopped to change horses
at the stage stop that I met
my wife, she was on break from
the Overland Mail Company, chewing
buffalo jerky, her jaws were toughened
for pussy,

pop a top,
a woman bandit
fool-heartedly tried
stealing the transported
apothecary and pharmaceutical
bouillon,

my wife
threw down
her sawed-off
shotgun, let the
woman bandit have
that famous 150-pound
green Wells Fargo treasure
box stored under the stagecoach
seat, "about as much as a woman
wants to shoulder to and from the stage
of life,"

I stepped aside,
my cleavage tucked
with smelling salts to
guide, let the bandit woman
on by, her day to live or die, her
breath smelled of desperation, her
deeds of obsessed rage, perspiration,

the tumbleweed
series might have
thwarted a less determined
prairie sage, apothecary and
pharmaceutical bouillon buried
the woman bandit in the river cursed
with quicksand, no one lending a hand,

with elbow
room, pretty
woman Wells
Fargo stage driver
and I f***ed inside the
Abbot-Downing Concord
Coach, in a gentle rocking
motion, on leather and damask
interior, thoroughbraces made of
strips of thick bullhide Mark Twain
called an "imposing cradle on wheels,"
Oh, baby again!

pop a top,
the Old West,
where barroom
brawls and soiled
doves were a dime
a dozen, the fabric of
time, full of movement and
implicit threat from fearsome
enemies, with streaks of green,
red, and blue that flowed from under
saddles on horseback, a century later,
filled with the dramas of George Jones
and some scandalous glass-plate negatives
of the day the pharmacy came in on Wells Fargo,

I love your descriptions, visual, and yet...
more accurate than a picture:
"I stepped aside,
my cleavage tucked
with smelling salts to
guide, let the bandit woman
on by, her day to live or die, her
breath smelled of desperation, her
deeds of obsessed rage, perspiration,"
these have to be my favorite lines!

/this is a short novel not a poem!...but you know what I mean.
"Holy coyote droppins'" the characters you meet along the way! And anyone who slips in a Mark Twain reference from his "Travel-Logs" gets my vote for a literary heiress. (see my "Wit & Wisdom of..." on M.T.)
Got anything set in the "Sierra Madre"?

Wonderful write, Sage! and well-structured and form! However, the music didn't play for me. Seems to me I'm missing some king of plugins or something. I've tried downloading it but it says there wasn't any suitable plugins for me. I don't know why.

Oh Sage...don't laugh...because I am sooo straight...but when I saw the title, I thought "wow"... I can tell Sage I once found an antique bottle with a pearl lustre with age that read, "Dr. Thompson's Eye Water",dated in the 1800's... also found an octogan shaped bottle that was for "opieum" and another that said, "Dr. Thompson's Vapor Relief"..... all valuable from a collectors point of view...then, reality hit....oops...this poem is about raw lust and it came via Wells Fargo... plenty of pharmaceuticals there it seems... duh! Ok.. I'm looking at the writers talent here...so don't load the Colt 45 yet... Your way with words is utterly unique and no matter if one is straight or not... you are one great writer! lindalaw

Nice. Erotic, passionate, romantic, with a touch of old west fare. I remember when Dale Roberston played an agent for Wells Fargo in Tales Of Wells Fargo. That was a good series. Thankyou for sharing Sage.

Oh, I love the old-timed flavor of this write!

How well I remember "desperation breath." Though it was some time back, the memory is as fresh as yesterday when in passionate pursuit my lovely partner discovered I was good for only one round that particular day. Her belching fire taught me the lesson "If you can't go twice, better not to go at all."

But I'm willing to bet if I had had your music playing, I woulda been more inspired. After all, adequate stimulation trumps desperation every time.

Amen and out.
