I love this storyline. Growing up, my cousin stuttered as does one of my smartest, kindest, best of friends. I love that you are dealing with that issue in your story. I also like the briefness of this, as it makes the words and their meaning really linger for the reader, creating strong images. As always, I enjoy your writing so much, Sage.
