Western bane berries poisonous
Wolf passes a certain rock at 2 o'clock
Pilot went straight to the peaks
Crosshairs camouflage

Who is the man really
Playing tricks with your mind?

He's no devotee of wild places
Predator never did learn

He's the blown thread of white vapor
Indian tribes have known him for centuries
Pileated woodpecker's trademark
Drilling holes in his evil plan

Witch's oxen migrating
Oregon Trail campfires
French fur trappers shot him
Blackberries within reach

Ripe and bittersweet as ever
Tiring of any spot not productive in trout
His bootprint lures
The wolf at his heels

Witch
Frostbite
His sore feet wrapped in sacking to walk
For the rest of his life...bane berries

This has a definite edge, Sage, a chisel subtly, finely at work doing a job...
superior imagery here..."the blown thread of white vapor" is exceptional and
"His bootprint lures
The wolf at his heels"
hits the mark perfectly.

Oh yes!

Look Away Silence by Edward Patterson
