apocryphal dirt clod
the horse's hoof held
the secret to wean from
the herd,

the witch pryed
the dirt clod from
the hoof, rolled it
into a ball of hair from
a squirrel,

Evers, her name
for the boar and Borden,
he who lives near the boar's
den, the witch, wise centaur of
Raven's Hill went to church and sat
with her back to the minister,

the witch's horse
plaited with corn shucks,
the mane matted in the morning
from riding all night searching for
superstition as sure as the witch
took her spinning wheel to the top
of the hill and the wheel began to
turn madly,

the witch freed
the butter, put a
horse bridle over
the churn, bewitched
the milk, heated it with
filings from a horseshoe,

drew a circle in
soil with a willow
fork, cut their tongues
with a silver coin sharpened
on her grindstone, blood of
the swine.

Climbing the marble
staircase if the official
print prints lies expose
them needles and pins

HEADLINES ...

"WHEN SAGE ROCKED THE GIRLS!"

She set them right
the bride in her fishnets
and needles and pins
posed for her tableau portrait
the lesbian photographer from
Gothic S & M ... Osage Sage!

HEADLINES ...

"SHE IS SELDOM FAR FROM SENSUALITY!"

Rivalry acupuncture feel
the sweet sting kiss it better
she doesn't cheat still the gossip

Climbing the marble
staircase if the official
print prints lies expose
them needles and pins

HEADLINES ...

"SHE LOVES FOR THE OLD WAYS!"

She don't promise to deliver
secrets no hotel bed is to be
found in her town needles
and pins in the haystack

HEADLINES ...

"EXPOSE HER SWEET!"

The anecdotal images, Sage, that you give us here are more than familiar to me, they are what I heard (albeit with slight variations) from my grandmother, a woman, if I may say so, of infinite wisdom and perception..just like your good self. This piece has a very personal resonance and I love it and I thank you for it.

Enigmatic monuments and glancing references in fragmentary remnants lend the disquieting sense that the numberless generations before us grasped more profound ideas than our orthodox history allows for. Mastefully done Sage. Good tidings always---Peter

Look Away Silence by Edward Patterson

Martin Powers wanted an ironing board for Christmas. Instead, he got . . . Matthew Kieler, a non-returnable gift, but a gift that kept on giving. A powerful tale of survival, compassion and unapologetic love in the time of AIDS.
