Amish Coal Bucket

Black bituminous
The children eye
For snowman's eyes

Father split it smaller
Pennsylvania Dutch
Small voices chime

He rounds off
Holy Coal eyes
The children smile

Winter cabin scene
Painted Amish coal bucket
Warm Religion

Stove door open
Toweled bread rises
God's Holy Coal makes many things - Amen.

Sage, from here I can smell the aroma of Amish friendship bread baking. Many Amish and Mennonite families lived in the area I spent my childhood in. My uncle was a Mennonite and surely one of the kindest souls I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. A sincere love and respect for all people he harbored. Your Amish coal bucket brings back fond memories of some of my Amish/Mennonite childhood acquaintances. Menno, Willow Jacob and so many more. Thanks for the nostalgia and another of your marvelous poems my dear friend. Love and peace to you. Jon Michael
