There is a difference between being Christian and practicing religion. Christians practice the teachings of our Lord Jesus, where religion practices all forms of corporeal punishment like it says in the old testament. What religious practitioners forget is, that Jesus said in Matthew 6:7-12; 7:"Ask and it will given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8:For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
9:"Which of you, if his son asks for bread will give him a stone? 10:Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11:If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12:So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." Taken from the Holy Bible, New International Version, page 673.
So it must be that the religious right wants to be treated in a bad or harmful manner just like they would want us to be treated. I guess "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", doesn't mean anything to the religious right. But then the religious right only practices certain select passages and don't care about the rest.
Sodom and Gomorrah weren't destroyed because the people there were gay or bisexual, but because they were sinfully lustful.
I am sorry for venting, but religion in this country is just an excuse for righteous indignation on the part of those that disagree with how we live our lives, whether we be lesbian, gay, bi, transgendered, intersexed. The religious right just needs a target and anyone will do. Thank you for sharing.
