Potting the Pulpit Flower in the Lord's Brass Spittoon

spitting scripture
preacher opened the good book
'baccy took a back seat in the rear pew

broadcast thy seed
sow religious propaganda
scatter the bull manure to the masses

sealing wax upon thy envelope
her divinity school paid off
they wrote to inquire her of hire

shapely figure behind the pulpit
made herself known to the congregation
she walked down the aisle to the rear pew

bent down and picked up the spittoon
I'll be dumping this cuspidor to the devil
he'll choke his happy butt and spit curses

outside she walked to dump the spittoon
inside she came with a spade and bull manure
her sermon potting the pulpit flower in the Lord's brass spittoon

Sage, somehow this reminds me of my father who would always
park his cigar on the outside sill of the window as he entered
the church to take his seat in the rear pew. Love it. -gene.
