How distortion reveals illusion...

carnival glass
won at the carnival
seven rings over the pegs
barker said "we have a winner"
I lugged that gift heavy with
crystal inspiration in the house
of mirrors its distorted shape tapered
into a bedknob I fell to my knees and on
all fours I just let her whisper under my
back door where she painted in calamine pink
"I've wanted this color for so long have you
ridden the zipper?"

zager and evans blared
and she made me clear on
how distortion reveals how
sight intensifies in a quick moment
when everything aligns with clarity
and vision f***s the pupil out and irises
grow from carnival glass as revealed in the
mirrors of understanding where illusion grows
her a bouquet colored with inspiration

That song and your poem fires up the thinking process and make you wonder. Thank you for doing that for me…

That song really got my attention when I first heard it many years ago except the premises were so far out they reeked of fantasy like the fake crystal offered as the big prize in the carnival. Inspiration is merely illusion and thinking that far ahead in time is totally illusional.

Look Away Silence by Edward Patterson

Martin Powers wanted an ironing board for Christmas. Instead, he got . . . Matthew Kieler, a non-returnable gift, but a gift that kept on giving. A powerful tale of survival, compassion and unapologetic love in the time of AIDS.
