To the poets: May the words flow and your God bless each and every one of you in abundance. Inviting you all back to post your valuable work.

Sage Sweetwater bringing you the Upper Tier in Creative Expression

sluice gates released the literary waters
at a gradual rate, to enrich, not erode the
poetic fields,

from above, the One watched from the
multi-story Watchtower, furnished warning
against invaders of Writers' Guilds,

literary organizations built according to
cosmic specifications, Walls complete,
authors prepared the altar to the gods,

tree-lined syntax boulevards welcomed all -
goddesses, monks, and adventurers, the
ideal configuration, circular, diversity of sods,

gongs and drums banged and beat, celebration
of the toil of authors' ammenities, heroic sewer
systems to keep the vile waste off the street,

but the fabled City of Poetry fell, victim to
poor management and internal chaos, little
remained but dens gorged with silt,

surging floodwaters gave it the consistency
of oatmeal, all that had been built, inundated
with deception and the litany of evil deeds,

the City of Poetry founded and erected to
provide word transportation, adjusted gradient
and inspired many learned tomes, poets homes,

put simply, one averts the Bridge Over Troubled
Water by raising the dikes or lowering the water,
the gods champion this cause,

too precious to lose, at the heart of public works,
poetic engineers have great influence, in ancient
mythology, they are first to conquer the flood,

applause, the poetic engineer, head of Fords,
Ferries, and Bridges outranks mudjackers, the
poetic engineer puts up a cofferdam of bamboo,

clears the City of Poetry of silt and debris,
credited in legend for supervising the blueprint
of poetic design,

Breaking Bread and wine, incense is burned
before his statue, hailed and veiled in vine, today
free of avarice and all manner of corruption,

linking all authors to one another, one of the great
poetic engineering feats of all time, holding the spine
of the book with collective glue...we thank you...

Ron knows what he is talking about as he is one of THOSE older poets he speaks of...LOL & you are fast becoming an older poet, dear young lady, but you still have the vim & vigor of a youngster at being prolific...I used to write a lot more too...a couple or more poems a day, but of late I just don't seem to have the drive nor do I care as much anymore...I get my points across then I am just not able to write anymore...but we all just try to keep pluggin along...you do the same...e

oh the words you weave
and you know (being I am a word whore)
that I love the language of them all
rubbing up on each other, slamming them
into a new phrase...bold & shocking
or just glorifying & gorging on them...
I lost interest in spending the cash for
a gold, and the platinum was a waste of cash
(yeah all the links were harvested elsewhere)
but I am still a word whore none the less
& I remain unashamed to admit it...
albeit that it is rather obvious

Anyone can write poetry––and has. I am surprised that the number of AD poets who have published books, suckered by the many POD publishers out there into the thought that they could be famous for their poetry by publishing a book of their dreams.

Unfortunately, my POD publisher does not even take poetry books because they flatly don't sell unless you are a famous poet, and they are very few, much fewer than in other writing genres.

You seem to be lamenting that fewer poets are posting their poems here. At the risk of being wrong (I often am), I will state the following reasons: first, originally, and I was one of them, AD was free. For those of us that got life membership, we have been able to post a very long time. Most of the original poets who were already retired, have aged, and are either too sick or have died and therefore no longer post their poems. Secondly, younger poets generally are working jobs and have other obligations that don't allow them to post very often. Thirdly, some poets have been subject to attacks which have caused them to leave permanently. Thirdly, all those who have published books of poetry, some at great expense, have become disillusioned when their books didn't sell and their hope of fame diminished. Let's face it, most people don't have the discipline, putting in the time and effort it takes to be an overnight success. Except for an occasional free membership, most folks do not have spare money to spend on posting poetry here.

nother great story told, teller-sage -reminded of a gardener's pair of eyes over the top of his rake, in a cemetery, in one of mine - I'd break bread with him -poetry rules! Your storypoems are great reading, last few esp enjoyable x

Look Away Silence by Edward Patterson

Martin Powers wanted an ironing board for Christmas. Instead, he got . . . Matthew Kieler, a non-returnable gift, but a gift that kept on giving. A powerful tale of survival, compassion and unapologetic love in the time of AIDS.
