Box Car Pussy and Wichita Recruits

cat's nine lives spent
one-way ticket under abilene
south of heaven

saucer of milk
curdled lumps congregate
topeka rats squalor

might have been
wichita recruits
or was it utes of durango?

hand-picked dilettantes
riding the rails on tattered coat tails
geriatric hobos expelled from the circus

I read my poetry
to her she never tires
hearing my voice or the cats laughing

together we cleaned the rails
dumped the saucer of milk and found
a box car pussy to lap

this is a train song
and a psalm about what is right
not wrong

Makes me wonder if Boxcar Willie ever met Boxcar Pussy… Now that would be a combination!

Look Away Silence by Edward Patterson

Martin Powers wanted an ironing board for Christmas. Instead, he got . . . Matthew Kieler, a non-returnable gift, but a gift that kept on giving. A powerful tale of survival, compassion and unapologetic love in the time of AIDS.
