Beet Pulp

saddle stirrup
worn off at a slight angle
that's where you get your rub
I wonder how much of me gets
you in the saddle - I've turned it loose
into the open the color of nutmeg the heat
of ginger

pasture companions
bed companions
she has you eating beet pulp
with added molasses for palpability

I have you
chewing the reins
