Marvelous tribute to all interpreters world-wide. I believe that Somalis make the best interpreters in the world. Back in the early nineties I remember having 30,000 troops in somalia who came from different countries and speaking different languages. Can you imagine that every contingent had its own interpreter recruited from within Somalia. I was once amazed by the brilliance of a chap who interpreted for the Turkish military in somalia. I asked him how he had learned Turkish and he replied" I was imprisoned in Istanbul for three months and learned Turkish in the jail" There were also many other somali interpreters who spoke Belgian, Czech, Urdu etc. Wonderful. I like Somalis though we are in many ways so destructive.

My daddy in Ohio speaks ten languages: grew up speaking English, Hungarian, Polish, Russian, and Czech, also speaks Japanese, Pakistani, Greek, Chinese (some), and one more I can't remember at this time. *grins* He's very good with languages; always has been. My daddy may have never graduated from high school, but he is a very smart man. :)

A tribute, of any greatness, to those dedicated to build bridges with communication always will be not enough compared with the small miracles as they make us understand the words of refugee childrens when they try to say to us about their hunger.

"THE INTERPRETER" can also build a Babel tower ~ if mis-interpretation
occurs by accident ~ or through conspiracy... WHICH is not what the Poet meant in his:

"The Interpreter" ~ subjects are the sworn officers ~ dedicated to serve and promote UNDERSATNDING among Mankind.
