Their voices, they shatter
Like tears gone cold - frozen,
If anything could freeze in this stifling
Heat, deathly heavy humidity…
The wait of a lifetime, a century,
The clinging patterns of swirling rain,
Ripping the skin off, peeling back the roofs,
Rain and floodwaters pouring in.
No one thought it could be like this, that
It would never happen…no…it couldn’t happen,
But it did…it did and what is left is ruined,
The broken homes, unmended bones,
And hearts and minds in shambles.
The wait, it continues…it will continue,
The stories will be told, the voices heard,
Shattering voices, thousands upon thousands
Upon thousands of voices…
