How I long for thee, fresh northern skies,
So blue and rich, a tapestry frozen -
White limestone cliffs dwarfing me
In this, the holiest place where sky kisses sea,
Where I can walk…sing…lift my hands to the heavens
In solitude, in isolation,
My spirit soaring as one with the cool breeze -
We drift together, breaking apart at the Causeway,
And I settle down, comforted by the hexagonal stones,
My heart free as I rest, smooth basalt beckoning.
Let me sleep here awhile,
Let me dream of Giant’s and shipwrecks,
Lost souls and sheltered harbors,
Let me feel the breath of the past on my cheek once again…
How I love thee, sweet green headlands rising to greet me,
Each touch ancient, each lilt of the wind beloved,
My sweet home in the North,
The richest gem, my greatest treasure,
Let me rest awhile in your embrace.
