My neice is in the Army and my nephew is a Marine, both were sent to Baghdad and both now returned home. I thank God for that every day...for not too many people can say that!
We lost 100 soldiers just last week!
BUT~For Forty years...never really any closure for you or his family...downright stinks!
If the young men and women who sign up...ever thought they'd be treated as such...Well...let's just say we are very lucky to still have any Armed Forces left!

Pain

Confusion!
They should NEVER be forgotten,
I think certain days of the year, should
be dedicated somehow, to the ones who GAVE their life
for others!
A Life Sacrificed out of love, should be noticed more often!

I relate, working on USAF bases I met many ex Nams of every rank, I learnt a lot after they'd had a few..
And after all that they are vilified. The CIA killing kennedy changed the life of many. It's one war Wilson did well to keep us out of. Indeed the families should be remembered too..

I can relate to this one Georg, to an extent. It's important that us soldiers, (not just the ones that wear or have worn the uniform) do not forget the position our young men and women have been put in throughout history nor their sacrifices, and the sacrifices of their families. It's a sad thing when political agenda tries to mask and sometimes erase the past. Our history is our history, we need to cease with the candyass sugar coating and begin to learn from it. If we fail to do so, then we will short change all of those who have suffered loss throughout it's course. By writing important pieces such as this, your service continues my friend. - HB

Georg, a beautiful write you have here. Missing forty years, my God!
My thoughts and prayers are with you. Viet Nam was a nasty war, but then aren't they all? Just be glad we no longer have a draft or lottery for that matter.

Touching Haiku...had a neighbor whose son was MIA in Nam. She found him after many, many years of searching, week after week, year after year. Sadly his body was found in a grave marked John Doe, his remains were flown home a few years ago...but at least she got closure before her own death! Such a sad event. You've composed a touching haiku, well done!
