Jasmin Horts Seiler told me that if I wanted I could write about my dog Kaiser.
Knowing what Ed Matlack is feeling about is Rufuz, I wish to tell Jasmin how my dog and I came to be, how it ended and why it haunted me since.
Everyone was at the time tired and wishing
by the freezing Christmas night of 1944,
of summer days in sunny California and
that the fighters will call it quits and done.
From the rubble of a collapsed building
came a faint whining of a little puppy dog,
its mother crushed by the falling masonry
how it survived I wouldn’t ever know.
Of a German Shepherd race, the big pup
was trembling so much that I nearly lost
it from my arms grip holding him against
my chest, a little fur pouch full of bones.
First night he sleep with a weak whining
inside the blanked wrapping us both,
after his belly was full of powder milk
the only one in the battlefront you got.
Just for fun I named it for the regal Kaiser,
no one in my life needed me, just a dog?
a child soldier holding an orphan puppy
two halves, for life, of one and same love.
Smuggled on a ship back to the States
after the insanity of man’s created storms,
welcoming silence to sleepless nights
of two friends having only each other for.
Big but gentle, prancing on the beach
like a purebred happy little horse,
no man can have a better friend than that,
send to love orphans by almighty God.
Many years passed since my dear friend
look me in the eyes, he was then very old,
I swear I saw tears of sadness there, before
he lowered his head and my friend was gone.
I bonded with my 13 year dog Joy, a cocker spaniel too and still miss her after 6 years she has been gone. They are in our hearts just like people stay. Dogs are man's best friends, but then you already knew that.
Sounds like you had a true friend for sure
Amazing how attached to a dog we can get isn't it
I have had many canine friends that I have been close to, but you had a special bond with Kaiser, perhaps because of how you met
Wonderful write, I enjoyed
Have a great day

Georg, what a heart piercing poem you have written! I could feel the love that you both shared from your tender words...Nothing better than a man and his dog, or a woman and her dog..Lovely, Georg just lovely.
Much peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"
Ahhh...what loving emotions you share with us in this poetic tale, friend! These memories of our dear pets - and yes! our best friend/child - will always linger in our hearts. More than a coinsidence that you and the pup were where you were...at that time! Watering eyes of joy as I read this, Georg.
Blessings and Love - Micke
Georg, Georg, as a lover of dogs, you caught me right in the heart with this one. If treated with kindness, nothing in this world loves you more, or returns more. I do not know what this says about me, but I cry more when my dogs go then I did when my parents went. Thank you for this warm story of love.
Your friend, Mark

The bond between dog and master can sadly be sometimes stronger than the bond we have with the wife.
I've never had "just" a dog either. All have been rescues, all wonderful. Bosco could catch a tennis ball in the dark. Wilbur was sweet, an 80 pound epileptic lab that insisted on hugs IN YOUR CHAIR. And Clayton, "Braveheart" as Eileen's work so aptly described. They were all special and unique. Our current mutts supply us with amusement, love and fill empty holes you don't even know exist. As you know. Bless your Kaiser. Patrick
Kaiser was not "JUST" a dog - he was your friend, the best friend you could ever have. You've done it again, Georg, left me in tears - what power in your pen! Well done.
I UNDERSTAND COMPLETELY...OUT OF THE DESPAIRING ASHES OF WAR CAME THIS TANGIBLE SYMBOL OF HOPE...YOU NEEDED EACH OTHER ABD CAME TO EACH OTHERS 'RESCUE' AT JUST THE RIGHT TIME. THE OBJECT OF A BONDING LIKE THAT CANNOT BE DIMINISHED TO THE WORLD'S TERM FOR IT...KAISER WAS NOT JUST A DOG...AND THE DEPTH OF WHAT HE WAS ONLY YOUR HEART CAN SPEAK OF IT. GEORG...YOU'VE DONE IT TO ME AGAIN AND I THANK YOU FOR IT...TRULY. GOD BLESS AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING. JOYCE - HIS INSPIRATIONS
A moving story of love, of happiness and a reminder of the passage of time. "I swear I saw tears of sadness there" makes me well up as I read it, sadness yes, for knowing it is over is very sad indeed.

The soldier and the dog - two halves of love. A wonderful story, brother, and I'm very glad you two found each other amidst that war ravaged rubble.
Soldier and dog stories are usually among the best of human-animal bond encounters, and as Jasmin points out, they are still occuring in Iraq, today. I think they've occured in all wars, and I think it's a damned shame that soldiers still have to 'sneak their friends home,' as you did.
And your beloved Kaiser sounds like a wondrous friend, indeed.
I understand this love & the bond & am deeply touched at the circumstances that joined you both in a time of need.
You both saved each other!!

What an epic heart wrenching story, love, from the rubble of war, Georg, I could feel your trembling pen as you wrote this, two halves truly one, in the spirit of love, now I feel better thanks, I thought I was the only oddball loving a pooch as much as I do. A most beautiful being you have as a friend, and a most beautiful being you are for bringing this sweet creature home. Yes Kaiser is a good name for him, for He stands as if He should be wearing a crown, and so should you, for having such a precious heart. Now I feel twice as happy helping to bring the pooches home from Irag, to honour the American soldiers in their kindness of spirit. Bless you and Hugs!

This is insanely touching and true Georg, like my poem about my dog Buster, if you want more tears! The insanity of man's created storms, best line here NOT about Kaiser, in WWI mother's told there children here, no way need be afraid after singing to them, unless of course it was the Kaiser, (saw that in a Golden Girls episode!)
You are unique Georg in your style of poetry and humor often has sense of melancholy just below the surface, though this one was more overt, but still effectively touching!
I have written a chapter called I Am That, I Am in this inspirational compilation book by best-selling authors and wonderful people from all walks of life xox :-D (Its sister book is called Adventures In Manifesting - Success and Spirituality)
These song lyrics and art are tales, tides and twinkling lights - tunes telling stories of warmth and sun, city and sand, paths that lead, and the coins we can keep in the Karma Bank. Spirit's been bypassed for sorrow, dreaming of a better tomorrow .
