Don't embark on a desert thousand mules journey with thirst or with tired feet.
Don't enter the forever Hell with hope or a pure soul free of sin.
Don't do it if you don't carry a bottle...of yesterday.
Days then, were drops that you kept in
a bottle you carried into the life’s desert,
where carcases of old illusions
were sacattered here and there,
their bones whitening under
the watchful sun of criticism
and a breeze of malice that’s unfair.
Like with time-old bad wine,
bitterness will settle in its bouqué,
to remain your palate that
the grapes of wrath
wasn’t meant to have a flair,
just a Golgotah kind of vinegar
on your parched lips,
it couldn’t be much more fair.
Bare foot we were born and with
the first second we came up for air,
if we were lucky we would have
a mother offering warm milk
from her breast,
if not…
it will be a bottle of tasteless nothing,
the only thing that in a hurry could spare.
For many a thirsty people,
life is like a barren merciless desert,
where they have nothing but to drink
from a bottle of Yesterdays.
LIFE IS NOT FAIR...AND THAT IS A FACT BUT...GOD IS. AND...EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE...IT'S ALL RIGHT TO DRINK FROM THAT BOTTLE...IT MAKES ONE APPRECIATE 'TODAY' BUT...ONLY A SIP(SMILE). THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WELL WRITTEN WORK THAT IS APPRECIATED AND SO ENJOYED.

Here speaks a man with experience from the ages; the sadness in the "bottle of Yesterdays" is naught for sipping, methinks. Beautiful written, Georg!!

I think this is one of your best poems. How could anyone with any life experience at all not be touched and challenged by this deeply philisophical and thought provoking write?
Georg,
I am speachless, I want to say so much, but can't...very insightful and thought provoking poem.
I think you should throw away the bottle of Yesterday and get a new one, a bottle of Present Time...full of friendship, joy and pleasant surprises...

Georg, I sob as I read this poem. I so feel what you are saying here, I am trying so hard to find where my heart is...I feel lost in a land of strangers and insecure people who just don't get it. I fear that I may be slowing losing myself. I need to go somewhere that my heart can relearn how to love again.
I understand where this poem is coming from, I live this and I try really hard not to live in the past but it does come back to haunt you every now and again.
Much love to you dear friend,
Amber "V"
Funny you should speak of no water, I have no water here today
I will have to change the pump I guess
All my yesterdays are pretty dry LOL
Have a great day

This is a neat picture of our human's condition. To comment on this poem would take probably one year with "A bottle of Yesterday" on the table to compare and to dare to say what one realy knows.
I like the read poems of this magnificence, for they challenge my creative inner mind. "A bottle of Yesterday" is an eternal lamp. Blessed be the author.
Very well penned once again Georg. Leaves me feeling a bit sad. Not everyone learns to play the cards they are dealt but those who do soon discover that even those who have the best of cards can waste them foolishly and end up being the losers. Hugs, J'nia
You on that Captain Morgans Rum again Georg? Of course in somewheres good water, or mothers milk is hard to find, or even cows milk for that matter, I would dare say, it's the same with love. You my friend have suffered a long dry spell and wandered many deserts full of bleached carcasses, but life can be like a pendulum, it's either all or nothing, and only a fraction of a second is it ever perfect.
I feel you'll be on the upswing from now on, you have felt the low.

Philosophical, yes....perhaps even a bit sad....and your last lines say much, but I believe that we need to always move ahead to enjoy what life we have left to live. Beautiful piece, Georg.
An amazing write my friend, reminds me of one of my favorite songs of the sixties....Time In A Bottle. Always loved that song and I love this current write of yours too Georg///well done.
