Maybe I’m just a hopeless romantic
Like the dinner and candlelight thing.
Love walks during the hot summers, too.
Just want to know if I can go deeper with
a brother than the hot-sex-on-a-platter thing.
Sick and tired of the games people often play.
Why can’t we just be simple?
Take time to really get to know each other.
and see if we do have commonalities beyond
“oohs” and “aahs” and “baby, don’t stop!”
Maybe I’m just a hopeless romantic.
Viewed Brown Sugar and Love Jones
too many times.
Really, is there a brother that will cater
to my physical and emotional needs?
Maybe I’m just tripping.
Maybe I have been writing too many starry-eyed
honeyed poems about men who do not exist.
Maybe I’m just vibing on bullshit that’s
been created in my wide-old mind.
Maybe it’s too damn complex and I should
be happy with the bullshit, lies, and love games
time after time.
Maybe it’s time to take it to another level, hold
fast and see what will be.
Enjoy the ride, then when it’s time, I’ll find my
proper destiny and at the end of this jacked up
road will be someone so special that my heart
will be too full to speak melodies.
