The World is Watching

7 days ago we all knew
something wicked was
brewing in the air down
near the big easy
in between the gulfport area
folks said it was coming
that Katrina was gonna whip
our family and friends something
awful
warnings that went unheard
for many folks thought perhaps
it wouldn't be so bad
days later we realize
that our family, our friends,
human beings with low incomes
who stuck out this tragedy
wished they would have known
that earth would erupt and tear
the soft soils
of americans totally blindsided
by waves of water
and the earth is now crying
images of babies, senior citizens
and poor americans- not just black
but white
struggling
starving to death
wading through dark waters
filled with diseases
fighting to feed their babies
struggling for days without a
response
this is the shaming of america
now a place where the world is
watching
and wondering about a superpower
that takes care of other countries
troops sent finally
food in hungry bellies
after days of violence, confusion,
and despair
finger pointing by all from local
to government
and i'm wondering why
all the show boating
when folks are dying
in airport terminals
women are raped in the superdome?
the world is watching
and no matter what anyone says
we cannot forget the destruction of
our brothern
so stop with the show boating, political talks, and be about the
business of helping others to rebuild
for tears without a cause
for words without actions
are like lies dying in the wind
let us be about embracing our fallen
help them rebuild
and stop with the wicked blindness
that now begs us to open our darkened eyes
that now wants to see
true human kindness
please set it free
no more red tape
people are crying
people are dying
and the world is watching
