sitting on the couch
after dinner
t.v. chattering its nonsense
I’m tired
long days workaday many pressures
most self-inflicted
but my mom is here
and I stifle a yawn
and my dad says
go to bed meja
and I lean over and put my
head on my moms lap
and
she is playing with my hair
and
I am all of a sudden
eight
and this is my Mom
and I don’t have to be
in charge or super woman
I’m
just
her
kid
and no one will ever love me like this
no one will ever
touch my hair and my heart like this
I could stay forever right here
in this moment
with the stupid t.v. humming
and the kids running around
and the dogs barking
and my head in my moms lap

Such a touching moment. You express yourself well. The mood and emotions are jumping through the screen. Nice write.
*tears* oh, josie...this really touched me...my mom died 13 years ago...59 years old...and how i miss her. she used to brush my hair, and i hated it...she'd pull, i'd jerk the other way, causing it to hurt more...what i wouldn't give to have mom pull my hair some more...*tears* (((HUGS))) and thanks for writing this tender expression of love...love, karla. :(
Oh!! Josie I wish I still had my mom.....but no luck for me I am alone no mom no dad....just sad memories of a sad childwood in a boardingschool since the age of six...
This moved my emotions to tears...

Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
