A dark look at our society

The girl who sold you her body last night
lies wild - eyed and trembling in a doorway.
Denied love, she sought comfort
where she could, but in the end found
no escape, just a kind of hiding place.
Her darkened mind full of the demons
your lust bought, she lies alone and lost,
descending to the deepest ring of hell.

The boy denied opportunity, castrated
and cast aside by our indifference
was crushed in a stolen car,
he was trying to prove his manhood.
It was not that they did not want to live
But we gave them no reason not to die.

Orphan child does not cry but empty eyed
sits waiting for the next storm of death
to rain down on the wrecked city,
perhaps burying the bodies of a family
she still expects to stand up, protect her
and take away the fear and pain.

The losers stand endlessly in unmoving lines,
they stand waiting forever but lack the energy
to complain as forever passes by around them.

The angry complain physically, attacking
friends while enemies look on laughing.
We gave them neither the words
to make us listen, nor the dreams
to make us care but only the guns
to make us fear.

The child looks at this world, then at the parent,
contempt filled eyes disclaim the inheritance,
asking "is this all you have to give me?"

Ian, you always make me think when I read you.. It's a difficult place to be in time. There is so many things going on that it would be impossible for the human to try and reshape society into a mold.
Afterall it was 'us' that took the mold away in the first place and said, "Go and do your own thing. Alter society don't let society alter you."
Now we live in what they've accomplished. What scares me though, is, they are not done yet.
A twelve year old girl here in Texas just this weekend shot and killed her Mother because her Mother grounded her. When asked by the police why she done it..she not only said but admitted that she had been 'planning' on killing her for quite some time. Premeditation. And the police said? She is a typical twelve year old, Raging hormones and all.
WE have to quit enabling these kids with lame excuses such as this, giving them the thought that what they've done was the fault of nature.
They must be made to take responsibility for their own actions. Until that happens? Society is doomed I'm afraid.
Awesome write Ian! Thanks for the release!

A dark legacy, indeed. As population increases, it becomes unfixable, except from within.

ROFL, after reading Anita's response. She did a similar ramble over at my place. We won't delete her, we love her!
Oh, Ian, what happened, woke up with your prophet's cap this morn?

ok......I personally do not feel responsible for the actions of others

I am in this boat of life......and I am not the captian or rower
guess I am a passanger......and what I do affects my children.....and the children of others since I work with kids

I can wring my hands, and lament the actions that are harmful, talk about it, write about it, pray (when I do), but I am not the instrument to travel the world, and set everyone straight.....

Wish I was, but I am not. I can affect a few people in my sphere, who hopefully can effect others, resulting in a ripple of sanity......
but for the most part
I do feel very helpless.......

shaking my head, and saying what a shame........well, I feel thats sort of a vacant gesture......makes me look informed and caring.....but what good does it do???

ok I realize I sound very pessimistic and down on my capabilities to correct the wrongs of the world...and there are not many...that put their money where their mouth is........

to the ones that do.......I think you are living Saints!!!

and we need more of those.....

Voting, community service, things like that, help.....
treating others decently.......thats a start
easy to do........
it begins within........

ok......just talked myself out of the funk i got into reading your write.......

yeah, I guess we can make a difference.........
thanks ian!

if this review is too nutzy .......just delete it......I am in an odd mood today! I've been sick as a dog for a month........woof!
